APOCALYPSE

IGNAZIO

Stella’s laughter brings a warmth to me that I feel deep inside my soul. I knew that she would fit seamlessly into my family. She is making me hope for things I’ve never dreamed of before. I’m committed to having everything with my Stella. She has possessed me deeply and surrounded me in a peace I’ve never felt. This gorgeous vixen is running through my veins like an exhilarant. Burning there deeply, forging an unbreakable flame.

It’s past eleven when we get back to our place. Italian meals aren’t known for being short affairs. Stella climbs into bed after positioning her pillows just right.

“Where is the honeysuckle place?” I couldn’t stop thinking about it all through dinner. I need to get that money before Enzo gets restless and sends in reinforcements.

Stella is distracted for a moment by a large yawn. “Huh, oh yeah… I’m not surprised Al picked that place. It’s in Bladensburg at the old go-kart track. My family used to go there sometimes after mass. There’s a stool made from a tire there that Alessandro would stand on while he lifted me up so I could get to the honeysuckles.” Stella becomes lost in her bittersweet memories. It infuriates me that even this happy memory has now been tainted by her imbecile brother.

Stella rolls over onto her side as she adjusts her body under the covers. I pull her into my arms to comfort her, and she surprises me by leaning into me. A huge smile begins to creep over my face.

“Everything happens for a reason, baby. You were meant to live a much better life.” And she will, from this day on. I won’t let her go to bed with this sadness on her mind either.

“That’s hard to believe sometimes. Sometimes I-I think that my sister had more potential. Maybe my family would have been different if it was me instead.”

“No, baby…you aren’t responsible for who they were as people. They would have been the same way with your sister. She went when it was her time and she’s in a much better place.”

I cover the side of her head with my hand as I slowly inch myself closer to her body until the tips of our noses are touching. “Look at me, Stella,” I whisper, waiting until her smokey eyes are set on mine. “No one has more potential than you. No one.”

Stella rolls her dynamic eyes at me and giggles sweetly. “Do you know what your greatest weapon is?”

“Sì. My Glock, firestorm. I keep it loaded with Smith & Wesson incendiary ammo that burns up to five-thousand degrees Fahrenheit, lighting a fire where it lands.”

“So, it looks like a firestorm? Hmm, I’d love to see that sometime. It isn’t your greatest weapon, though. No, your greatest weapon is your smile.” I don’t miss the flirtatious tone in her voice and my shaft sure as fuck doesn’t either.

“How so?”

“When you smile, you’re believable… everything doesn’t seem like it’s too good to be true.”

“Then I will be doing it much more often.
